Five ways to bring the leadership greatness in you and others!

As you begin a new week, think about the people you lead and serve. You may think about how to add value to their lives and make a positive difference. As you begin these positive affirmations to jump start your week, you realize that leadership can be measured in the small mini gestures of finding the greatness in you and others.

Here is what I know which I believe each one of us is capable of. It was quote by the late Zig Ziglar, “You were designed for accomplishment, engineered for success, and endowed with the seeds of greatness.”

Take it a step further, you were designed for leadership greatness that can influence the lives of others with a servant’s heart and recognizing the greatness in others. I am grateful that I have the opportunity to see greatness in others as they emerge as the next generation of leaders. People who make a difference in my family, community and work.

So what are some of those qualities that all of us can find greatness inside ourselves and others?

Believe that you can make a difference right now-Don’t second guess yourself, but find even a small way to contribute. Don’t worry about impact or resources at this point but energize yourself to take the first step. One person can make a difference and you matter more than you think. When you believe that you CAN do something even small, it will happen and build the confidence in you as a leader. Great leaders begin with an intentional heart.

You have what you need at this moment– Eckhart Tolle in his best-selling book The Power of Now which propelled many people to change their lives said that, “On a deeper level you are already complete. When you realize that, there is a playful, joyous energy behind what you do.” As a leader, you have what you need to make a difference. Don’t wait for a project or a title to become a leader.

Inside of you resides a power that’s yearning to make a difference. Leadership begins on the inside of every person. What do you really care about and why you want to be a leader?

Continue to grow and develop as a leader-The most successful leaders I know continue to sharpen their saw. They never arrive. They are hungry to learn more about serving others and develop areas that their talent and gifts needs nurturing. Think of yourself as a farmer. Every day, you have to grow the seeds you planted, feed your talent and water the flowers inside of you.

Be open to changes and accept your imperfections-Don’t be so hard on yourself. You are a great human being. As part of being human is to recognize we are not perfect. Brene’ Brown reminds us in her very influential book, The Gift of Imperfection, that “Perfectionism is a self-destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect, and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feelings of shame, judgment, and blame.”

Have self-compassion to yourself and others-One of the best way to keep yourself empowered as a leader, is to learn to understand yourself and others. Treat yourself like a best friend who is there to support and care in challenging times. Sometimes we tend to be self-critical and judgmental. But we need to learn to stay in compassion and perceiving our experiences as part of the larger human experiences instead of isolating failures.
